Before anything practical, a distinction worth making: frizz and texture are not the same thing.

What frizz actually is
Every strand is wrapped in overlapping cuticle scales. When they lie flat, the surface is smooth, moisture behaves predictably, and strands sit against each other in a pattern. When they are raised, by damage, dryness, friction, or roughness, the strand catches on its neighbours, absorbs and releases moisture unevenly, and stands away from the group.
Humidity then makes it visible. Hair is hygroscopic: it absorbs water from the air. The point the usual advice misses. Frizz is not caused by humidity and it is not caused by dryness, it is caused by a compromised cuticle, and humidity or dryness then reveals it. Which is why hair with an intact, well-sealed cuticle handles a humid day far better than hair that has been stripped, over-processed, or left unsealed. Why frizz advice contradicts itself
You will find articles telling you frizz is caused by dryness, so moisturise heavily. And articles telling you frizz is caused by humidity, so use products that repel moisture. Both appear in the same guides, and following both leaves people applying products that work against each other.
Both are describing the same thing from different angles. Dry hair has a raised cuticle. A raised cuticle absorbs atmospheric moisture unevenly. So dryness is the underlying state and humidity is the trigger that makes it visible.
The resolution is that you want moisture inside the strand and a seal on the outside. Moisture in the cortex keeps the strand flexible and reduces how much it needs to grab from the air; the seal keeps that moisture in and smooths the surface so the cuticle lies flat. Why textured hair frizzes more
● The cuticle is naturally more lifted. On a curved strand, the scales cannot lie as flat as they do on a straight one. That is structural rather than a fault.
● It is drier to begin with. Sebum cannot travel down a coiled strand, so textured hair starts with less natural sealing than straighter hair has.
● More strands touching more strands. Coils contact each other along their length, so friction is constant and cuticle roughening accumulates.

What genuinely reduces frizz
Seal properly, every wash day
The highest-leverage step by a distance. A sealed strand holds its own moisture, so it takes on less from the air, and the seal itself smooths the cuticle surface. Apply to soaking wet hair, and do not disturb it
Products applied to wet hair distribute evenly and set the cuticle down as it dries. Applied to half-dry hair, they sit on top of a surface that has already roughened. Smooth each section downward with your palms rather than raking or scrunching repeatedly, and then leave it alone.
Stop touching it while it dries
Almost every wash-and-go is frizzed by its owner during the drying phase. Hair sets as it dries; disturbing a half-dry section breaks the cast and lifts the cuticle permanently for that wear. Hands off from application until fully dry.
Reduce friction everywhere

Cool final rinse

Deep condition consistently

Frizz is what an unsealed cuticle looks like on a humid day. What does not work
Anti-humidity sprays as a standalone fix
They form a barrier against atmospheric moisture, which helps for a day. Many are alcohol-heavy, and used regularly on hair that is already dry they make the underlying problem worse. Reasonable occasionally on well-sealed hair; not a substitute for sealing.
Brushing it down
Every stroke lifts the cuticle further. Smoothing dry frizz with a brush produces thirty seconds of improvement and more frizz tomorrow.
Heat, to smooth it permanently

Piling on more product
Frizz caused by damage does not respond to volume. Excess product weighs hair down, causes buildup, and buildup blocks the moisture that would actually help.
Washing less to avoid disturbing it

Styling for humid conditions
Some styles hold up in humidity and some do not, and choosing well matters more than any product.
● Set styles hold better than wash-and-gos. Twist-outs and braid-outs group strands together, so individual hairs cannot lift independently. A wash-and-go relies on every coil staying clumped, which humidity undoes.
● Larger sections frizz less than small ones. Fewer separations, fewer edges for strands to escape from.

When frizz is telling you something
Persistent frizz in specific sections, rather than across the whole head, usually means localised damage rather than a routine problem.

And some of it is not frizz
Worth saying, because a lot of people are chasing a standard that does not apply to their hair. Textured hair has a halo. Coils separate as they dry and as the day goes on. Volume increases in humidity. None of that is damage or failure, it is what the hair does, and hair grows at roughly half an inch a month looking exactly like that.
The version of "frizz-free" sold in most advertising is a straight-hair standard applied to textured hair, and chasing it usually means heat, chemical processing, or heavy product. Why is my hair frizzy even though I moisturise?
Almost always because you are moisturising without sealing. Water applied to hair evaporates within hours unless something holds it in, and an unsealed strand then draws moisture from the air unevenly. Moisture first, seal second, every time.
Is frizz a sign of damage?
Sometimes. Widespread frizz is usually dryness and an unsealed cuticle. Frizz in specific sections, or hair that will not revert when wet, points to damage in those areas, heat or chemical processing being the usual causes.
Do anti-frizz serums work?
They smooth the surface temporarily and many contain silicones that do that effectively. They do not address the underlying cuticle condition, and alcohol-heavy formulas dry the strand further. Useful as a finishing product on well-cared-for hair; not a fix.
How do I stop frizz in humid weather?
